For those of you interrested in testing the development builds of Splinter Client I will make them available here.

Latest build - dev03
Splinter Client TODO list (including bugs and suggestions).

I will be posting script examples at a later date.. until then, if you need help, I recomend the very excellent MSDN (msdn.microsoft.com) site. You are also welcome to email me, though I may decline to answer.

As always, all feedback is welcome.
I recently had need of an easy method for extracting information from my web site logs. My requirements were simple:
  • 1. I would not have to install any software on the server.
  • 2. I could ask the software for any information or combonation of information without being limited to pre-packaged or canned queries.
  • 3. The software would be FAST (well, as fast as one can get when looking for information amongst gigabytes of text files).
I was left in one of those good news/bad news situations...
Good News: My search led me to Microsoft's Log Parser 2.0 and Microsoft Log Parser 2.1 (part of the IIS 6.0 reskit).
Bad News: MS Log Parser is a command-line tool.

Most of the time I am more comfortable on a command-line than in a Windows GUI, especially for server related activities. However, When it comes to querying data from a datasource I'm hooked on Microsoft Query Analyzer (part of the MS SQL Server client tools). So I have taken it upon myself to write a GUI wrapper around the MS Log Parser COM objects. This GUI (GWAvA) features the excellent UI controls from Tim Dawson, the MS Log Parser 2.1 COM objects.

GWAvA is free to use; see the About box for terms of use.

I've been promising the users of Chalacyn Nights a MUD client since 1990-ish. About time I got around to writing it huh!?

I welcome any input regarding this project. Please send all comments and requests to participate in beta testing to ghostinak @ yahoo.com

Recently I have had the need to parse HTML documents and extract specific information. This is incredibly tedious code to write. To help aleviate some of the bordom and speed up this kind of parsing I wrote a .NET class which converts an HTML document to an XML.XMLDocument object. Now you can take full advantage of the XPATH query language to parse your HTML! Enjoy.

I saw something yesterday that made my eyes bleed. I've been hearing about how cool XML web services are for quite some time. Until I built by own yesterday, I didn't understand just how cool they were. If any of you build your own web service and it doesnt make your eyes bleed, then you did something wrong. Makes RPC look like a broken toy.

Been busy.. still am.. will try to get the site fully functional asap.. probably next year at this rate.
